West Status was tailored to discover reputable ways to emit authenticity in the chaos. We share ways to purely be your elite self, your higher status.
On Friday mornings, we just expose; spilling the tea all over the place.
ONE. What does it mean when you “Journal” (don’t scroll, this is important shit)
It’s time to get off your high horse and step into the world of journaling—here’s why you should give it a shot.
Journaling or reflecting is like having a heart-to-heart with yourself—a simple yet insanely powerful tool that’s often overlooked in our chaotic lives.
When we first started journaling, it was more of a “let’s see where this goes” kind of thing, or more like “let’s see if this actually works”.
& fuck, the benefits have been mind-blowing.
Not only does it help clear the mental clutter, but it also allows you to process emotions and experiences in a way that’s truly transformative. By putting pen to paper, you create a safe space to explore your thoughts, uncover hidden feelings, and track personal growth over time. Trust us, even just a few minutes a day can make a massive difference in how you feel and function.
From a wellness perspective, journaling is like your daily mental detox.

Of course, we are going to drop the research - Studies show that regularly reflecting on your thoughts and feelings can significantly reduce stress, improve mood, and even boost your immune system. It’s not just about venting your frustrations—although that’s part of it—but about gaining clarity and perspective on your life.
For those of us navigating the chaos of adulting, journaling can be a breakthrough, helping us to stay grounded, focused, and aligned with our goals - and if we are being honest, it can help you stay sane.
Whether you're jotting down a gratitude list, processing a tough day, or planning your future, journaling is an essential practice for anyone looking to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being.

THREE. Positive Psychology hacks, based on the research
The idea is that our bodies serve as the control center for our body - the whole physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
There are simple actions that shift you from being a passive responder to your emotions to an active participant in shaping how you want to feel.
When you smile, you trigger the release of chemicals that naturally boost your mood towards happiness.
Breathing deeply into your belly, really feeling it expand, activates the vagus nerve, signaling your entire body to relax.
Even flexing in front of the mirror can elevate your confidence—perfect for those moments right before a big presentation.
Never let your mood determine your actions, as it takes action to change your mood.
Now go ahead and flex in that mirror, you amazing human.

SEVEN. Does mouth taping actually work?
We recently delved into the intriguing world of mouth taping to answer the big question: Does it actually work?
Mouth taping involves gently applying a strip of tape over your lips while you sleep, promoting nasal breathing instead of mouth breathing. We’ve found that the idea is simple but effective.
By encouraging nasal breathing, you can potentially enhance your sleep quality, improve jaw alignment, and even reduce snoring. We tested this method ourselves and were pleasantly surprised by the benefits discovered.
Here’s how to mouth tape -
Use a hypoallergenic tape designed for the skin, such as medical or sports tape.
We highly recommend starting with this one.
Place it horizontally over your lips before bed, making sure it’s comfortable and not too tight.
The benefits we noticed included better sleep quality, waking up feeling more refreshed, and it also helped alleviate symptoms associated with TMJ. Mouth taping can also support better oral health by reducing the risk of dry mouth and associated dental issues.
And yes, there is scientific research supporting the benefits of mouth taping, although it is still an emerging field. Studies have shown potential improvements in sleep quality, reduced snoring, better oral health, and enhanced respiratory function.
Improved Sleep Quality: A study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine
Reduced Snoring: Research in Chest (a journal of the American College of Chest Physicians)
Better Oral Health: According to a study in the Journal of Periodontology,
Enhanced Respiratory Function: A study in The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine
As always, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before trying new wellness practices. For those seeking a natural way to improve sleep and breathing, mouth taping could be a good addition to your nighttime routine.
Drink your tea, and enjoy the weekend.
