ONE. Stay Hydrated. How much water do you really need?


Skin concerns? Hydrate. Need digestive support? Stay hydrated. Seeking weight management? Opt for hydration. It all boils down to the importance of water.


Staying hydrated is essential for physical and mental health and overall well-being, but


how much water do you really need to drink each day?


Scientifically, the optimal daily water intake can vary based on several factors, including age, gender, body weight, activity level, climate, and overall health. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) provides general guidelines for daily water intake:

 

The NASEM recommends a total daily water intake from all beverages and foods, which includes water obtained from drinking water, beverages, and moisture content in foods.


For most adults, total water intake is approximately:


  • About 3.7 liters (125 ounces) for men

  • About 2.7 liters (91 ounces) for women


These recommendations include water and other fluids, as well as water from food sources like fruits and vegetables.

The general guideline often cited is to aim for about 8 glasses of water per day, which is approximately 64 ounces or about 2 liters. This recommendation, known as the "8x8 rule," provides a simple guideline for staying adequately hydrated.


However, individual needs may vary, and it's essential to listen to your body's signals for thirst and adjust your water intake accordingly. Certain factors such as exercise, climate, and medical conditions can affect hydration needs. If it’s hot, or you’re working out, drink more.


*Quick tip to increase your water intake - Take with you a water bottle you enjoy - it’s a wild concept, but picking out your daily water bottle has proven to motivate continued hydration throughout the day.


Second, if plain water feels too dull, consider switching to lemon-infused water to add some zest to your hydration routine.


Additionally, factors such as sweating, illness, pregnancy, and breastfeeding may increase the need for hydration. Consulting with a healthcare professional can provide personalized guidance on optimal water intake based on individual circumstances.

In 2018, James Clear introduced this term in his book, Atomic Habits. The idea you can accomplish more by focusing on less, habit stacking involves associating a new habit with an already existing one.


The idea is to "stack" the new habit on top of an established routine that already exists. The key to successful habit stacking is selecting a cue or action that you already perform regularly and linking it with the new behavior you want to adopt.


Here's an example - Let’s say you already have a daily routine of a morning walking on your treadmill. Instead of scrolling through Instagram, open a book during your morning walk, our latest read obsession could easily get you out of bed in the morning.

The sooner you can enjoy your life, even without that thing you want so badly -

You will enter into a beautiful energetic space of neutrality, where you are an absolute magnet for what you want to call into your life because you can not want something and have it at the same time.
